Lost the TimeTraces notification icon?

On Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP, the visibility of icons in the notification area is managed by Windows.  If an icon is not used frequently enough, the icon will be hidden after a period of time.

For applications you almost never use, this is useful behavior.  However, for some applications this might be a nuisance.  If you do not want Windows to hide the TimeTraces icon in the notification area, you need to set up Windows to do so.  This can be done in the following way:

For Windows 7

  • Right-click on an empty spot on the task bar; a menu will now open.
  • From this menu select the option "Properties"; the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window will now open.
  • In the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window, click on the "Customize..." button in the "Notification area" section; the "Notification Area Icons" window will now open.
  • In the "Notification Area Icons" window, find the TimeTraces icon.
  • Change it's setting from "Only show notifications" to "Show icon and notifications".
  • Press the "OK" button in the "Notification Area Icons" window.
  • Press the "OK" button in the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window.
